The Tab assesses the repercussions for college rugby following the suspension of SCCRUFC

The Tab can confirm that SCCRUFC will not be turning up to any of their remaining fixtures in the league, handing their opponents an automatic 40-0 walkover win

This certainly plays into the hands of some colleges more than others. Downing were looking forward to a try-fest in their remaining fixture against Catz, as their race with Jesus for second place could go down to points difference.

Downing centre Rhemayo Brooks summed up his side’s frustration: “We were looking to get into triple figures against Catz. I was hoping to get 40 myself.”

Rock bottom Catz are now destined for relegation but whether they will begin next year in Division 2 or Division 3 still remains unclear.

The Tab also understands that SCCRUFC will not participate in this year’s Cuppers. In spite of this set back the team remains hopeful of entering the competition under a pseudonym, such that there is no association with St Catharine’s College.

Controversially their players are still permitted to play for other colleges in Cuppers. However, given the distinct lack of talent demonstrated by anyone in a red jersey so far this season, it is highly unlikely that any other college would wish to add any Catz player to their ranks.

This is a little harsh given that catz have a blues player, an u21A and a couple of u20s squad players… poor journalistic research tbh!
