If you want social mobiliy, even out the schools more, don't take it out on the universities. I went to a state school and didn't receive any preparation for my interview, and didn't feel like it held me back at all. And I don't really see the relevance of her salary. I'm sorry? Why is that exactly? Could it be because you feel that the only way a woman could have reached the position of Vice-Chancellor is through the machinations of an 'engine for social justice'? I'm sure Ellie Pithers' bagel just popped out of her toaster in disgust. I know mine did.

'Richard, who enjoys a £227,000 per annum salary, is the first ever woman to hold the position of full-time Vice-Chancellor, lending a smack of irony to her statement.'

I'm sorry?
