There were better dresses than these, open your eyes! You've clearly just picked random people in the queue.

  2. ball says:

did you miss out all of magdalene?

  3. Cuisine vs Couture? says:

Why are there no actual Magdalenites here?! Is it because we're unfashionable or because this is the queue for non-dining? Fingers crossed for the latter.

  4. Esme Nicholson says:

I'd fuck the tits off me.

  5. what says:

In all seriousness, until I looked at these photos, I thought "white tie" meant the jacket and trousers had to be white as well.

  6. oh wait says:

nice to see the Tab has invested in a proper camera at last.

  7. Traditionalist says:

It's so disappointing to see men wearing white tie, complete with tailcoats, but to finish the ensemble with a cheap pair of 'fashionable' black shoes. Black patent leather shoes should be worn with white tie, anything else looks hideous.

  8. Properly attired. says:

White tie trousers are meant to be worn on the 'actual' waist. This is found above the hip bones and just beneath the lowest ribs. The while waistcoat is supposed to cover the line between trousers and shirt. If the trousers are worn low they bunch up and look ridiculous. Just wear the damn things where they are meant to be worn or don't wear white tie at all!

  9. Notdressedproperly says:

If you're going to be picky all their trousers are hung far too low; braces should be worn to make sure there's a nice clean division between waistcoat and trousers without any embarrassing shirt showing, and to stop excess trouser gathering in horrible folds around the ankle. Shirts should be worn with detachable stiff starched wing collars fastened with collar studs and single cuffs, shirt studs should be mother-of-pearl or small gold studs (black looks a bit odd) and bow ties should be tied YOURSELF. And I can't see any interesting socks to set the whole thing off. And yes, you should wear proper shoes.

As for girls, gloves should be shoulder length (certainly above the elbow) and shoes should be flat to enable dancing – though admittedly the rules are (rightly) more liberal for the ladies.

    • shut up says:

Seriously, I was just reading an article asking if Cambridge was elitist and then I saw this comment.

      • lulz says:

Yay, let's get loads of things wrong and then people won't think we're elitist!!!!!!!!!11

Should our supervisors not bother teaching us the facts either? We wouldn't want to be elitist now.

  10. homerton! says:

i had two friends at magdalene who were way better dressed than this
